Give the properties and application of cotton, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Give the properties and application of cotton.

Cotton: It is base material for insulating fibres.

Properties:

It can be enhanced by impregnating with varnish.

1) Cotton is hygroscopic. Moisture absorption is 70 percent.

2) Cotton has low dielectric strength.

3) Resistivity of cotton changes with moisture content.

4) Cotton can be used up to 1100C.

5) Density of cotton is 1.54gm/cm3.

Applications: Cotton is used as insulating material for armature winding of small as well as medium sized machines, small transformers, chokes and coils. It covered wires are used for winding of small magnet coils.
