GIS APPLICATION IN THE POWER DISTRIBUTION ENVIRONMENT
Previously, we have discussed the IT applications in the areas of Metering, Data Acquisition and Management, Asset Management, and Financial Management. We have presented the software and hardware requirements for these applications as well as case studies of several utilities, that are using a variety of IT solutions for these applications.
IT applications for distribution network management call for a various breed of solutions, such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Automated Mapping (AM)/Facilities Management (FM)/ Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions. You have learnt about SCADA in previously. Here, we acquaint you with the GIS solutions pertaining to distribution network management. We also discuss software- based distribution network planning and analysis. The IT applications associated to transactions along with customers during the life cycle of a customer in the power distribution system are discussed.
