Assignment Help:

Explain what is Correction of Hypovolemia ?

Intravenous fluids should be given to correct hypovolemia and optimize preload to the heart. This is particularly important in septic shock - huge volumes - as much as 5 to 7 litres of fluid may be required in the first 24 hours. Correction of the volume status is crucial in augmenting organ blood flow. The adequacy of volume replacement may be assessed by the heart rate, blood pressure, urine output, peripheral warmth and capillary filling. Central Venous Pressure may also give a clue. Pulmonary Artery Catheter based hemodynamic optimization is becoming less popular, as this has not been shown to improve outcomes. Besides, there are many new devices that are able to measure cardiac output in a less invasive fashion.
