Explain Ventricular Fibrillation (VF) and Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia (VT)
The commonest rhythm seen in cardiac arrest is VF, which may be preceded by a short period of VT or at times, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). The key to resuscitation from these rhythms is the prompt delivery of a shock. Myocardial energy reserves get depleted by about 7-10 per cent for each minute of arrhythmia. Basic life support must be started if a defibrillator cannot be obtained immediately, but should not delay the delivery of shock.
