Explain the suitability of copper, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Explain  the  suitability  of  copper that  is  used  as  electrical  conducting materials.

Copper: Pure annealed is utilized for the winding of electrical machines. High purity copper is acquired by electrolytic refining. Traces (0.1 percent) of iron, phosphorous or silicon seriously reduce the conductivity of copper. The conductivity of it is also decreased when this is hard drawn in wires for employ in machines. Therefore annealing is essential before the material can be used in machines. Hard drawn copper because of its increased mechanical strength compared along with annealed copper is used for conductors in low voltage overhead distribution lines. Long span lines of thin cross section needs conductors of higher mechanical strength that is achieved by adding minute percentage of cadmium to copper. It is used in machine windings since it is simply workable without any likelihood of fracture.
