Explain the purpose of realistic and contrived tests as part of the installation of a new system.
Both of these tests contribute to a critical activity prior to the changeover to a latest system within an organisation. The aim is to make sure that the system is working correctly before going 'live'. Ideally ultimate users should be contained in conducting these tests in order to build their confidence in the latest system and how to operate it.
Realistic tests
Realistic tests involve presenting the system with a realistic instance of the environment in which it is to operate. The purpose is to test both the system itself and the effectiveness of training and the preparedness of future system users.
Contrived tests
Contrived tests include presenting the system with unusual and unexpected events, (such as incorrect codes, wrong amounts, inappropriate commands, and so on). The purpose is to see how the system reacts, and whether all conceivable anomalies have been catered for in the system's design
