Explain the Gomez classification?
It will be of interest to you to learn that in Mexico, a child specialist named Gomez and his co-workers proposed a classification expressing the body weights of children as percentage of normal values (standards) for age. They proposed that young children could be divided into 4 grades of malnutrition. They observed, based on their hospital observations, a marked difference in mortality of children suffering from second and third grades of malnutrition. The advantage is that it would be possible to prioritize - actions based on the classification given in Table.
Table: Gomez classification for weight for age
All those with severe degree of malnutrition need the attention of a trained nutrition worker. Children in second and third grades of malnutrition require nutrition supplementation.
