Explain the disadvantages Off-the-shelf

-  can be over-complex since it tries to cover as many characteristics as possible (for example most users of Word only utilise about 10% of its features)

-  Software is often a compromise as it is intended for many users all with various requirements

-  may be very complex to learn due to the complexity caused through having unwanted features

-  may not fit exactly into company requirements causing a compromise in the way it has to be used within organisation

-  If there are typical concerns with a software problem it's unlikely that it would be fixed immediately (as it may cause problems with other users and/or cause software instability)
