Q. Explain States of matter
Ans. Chemistry deals with the nature and composition of matter - anything that occupies space and has mass, and the changes which it undergoes. Matter is described by its physical and chemical properties. Its physical properties include density, hardness, taste, color, state, boiling and melting point, and others. A substance's chemical properties are defined by its ability to undergo reactions to form a new substances. Because everything in nature is composed of matter, we must learn something of the interactions between different types of matter and states of matter before we proceed in the study of biological systems.
The quantity of matter is measured in units of mass. Weight is a measure of the force of gravity upon a mass. The physical states of matter, sometimes called phases, are solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. The plasma state exists only under conditions of extremely high temperatures. The addition or removal of heat can often change matter from one state to another.
