Scientific Applications/Image processing

Major of concurrent processing applications from science and other academic disciplines, are mostly have based on numerical simulations where huge quantities of data should be processed, so as to make or test a model. Illustrations of these applications comprise:

  • Global atmospheric circulation,
  • Blood flow circulation in the heart,
  • The evolution of galaxies,
  • Atomic particle movement,
  • Optimisation of mechanical components.

The manufacturing of realistic moving images for TV and Film industry has become a big business. In area of the large computer animation, though much of the work is able to be done on high specification workstations, however input shall often include the application of parallel processing. Even at the cheap end of image production spectrum, reasonably priced systems for small production companies have been formed by connecting cheap PC technology using a small LAN (Local Area Connection) to farm off processing work on every image to be created.
