Explain properties and application of Copper.

Properties

1) Cooper is reddish brown in color.

2) Cooper is malleable and ductile and can be forged, cast, rolled, machined and drawn.

3) Cooper melts at 10830C.

4) Cooper easily alloys with other metals.

5) Electrical resistivity of copper is 1.7x10-8 ?-m.

6) Tensile strength for copper is 210 MN/m2.

7) Cooper is highly resistant to corrosion.

8) Cooper is a non-magnetic material.

Applications:

It is used in conductor wires, coil windings of transformers and generators, cables and bus bars.
