Our tongue can sense different tastes. Do you know which are the basic tastes and the areas where these are sensed? In humans, there are four basic tastes - sweet, sour, bitter and salt - as you may already know. Bitter substances are tasted on the back of the tongue, sour along the edges, sweet and salty tastes are appreciated mainly at the tip of the tongue.
