Explain graphics adapters, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Explain graphics adapters.

Video card converts digital output by the computer in an analog video signal and sends the signal by a cable to the monitor also termed as a graphics card.

  • The number of colours a video card displays is found by its bit depth
  • The bit depth of video card, also termed as the colour depth, is the number of bits this uses to store information regarding each pixel
  • That is 8-bit video card uses 8 bits to store information regarding each pixel; this video card can display 256 colours (2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2)
  • That is 24-bit video card uses 24 bits to store information regarding each pixel and can display 16.7 million colours
  • The greater the number of bits, the better the resulting image Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), that has video card and monitor manufacturers, improves video stands to define the resolution, no. of colours and other display properties.
  • Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA)
  • Hercules Graphics Card
  • Colour Graphics Adapter (CGA)
  • Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)
  • Video Graphics Adapter (VGA)
  • Super VGA (SVGA) and Other Standards Beyond VGA
