Explain Glucocorticoids
The adrenal cortex secretes the glucocorticoids which increase gluconeogenesis by increasing hepatic intake of amino acids accompanied by increased activity of enzymes of gluconeogenesis, as well as, of transaminases. Glucocorticoids also inhibit utilization of glucose in extra hepatic tissues. The net effect is one of increasing blood sugar level.
