Explain Frame Members Effective Lengths

a. Effective length is a product of an effective length factor (k) and the actual length of the column.

b. k depends on the relative stiffness of the columns/beams at the ends of the column and if the frame is braced/unbraced.

c. The Jackson and Moreland alignment chart is used to determine the effective length factor (k).
