Explain cold rolled grain oriented steel, Electrical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Discuss the properties and uses of Cold rolled grain oriented steel.

Cold rolled grain oriented steel:  Grain orientation of silicon steel is acquired by a special technique termed as cold rolling. Sheet steel acquired in this process is termed as Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Steel. CRGO silicon steel is broadly used for making transformer cores. The magnetising current needed by transformers using CRGO steel is low. When CRGO sheet steel is utilized as core material for rotating machines, the core will be assembled by a large number of sections but it will not result in grain orientations totally parallel with the flux path due to the circular nature of cores of rotating machines yet. Assembling also the core from sections of sheet steel will create the construction hard and expensive.
