Assignment Help:

Explain assessment of iron status - Serum Ferritin?

Serum Ferritin: This method is indicative of iron stores. As we know, a long term negative iron balance first results in depletion of iron stores with a fall in serum ferritin levels. Plasma femtin concentration of less than 30 microgram per litre is considered indicative of iron deficiency. In normal subjects, plasma femtin averages 100 mcg/L. Values in excess of 250 mcg/L are indicative of iron overload.
