For the body to function normally, certain amount of body fat is required. This is called essential fat. For women, average amount of essential fat is 1290 and for men, it is 3% of the body weight. Storage fat consists mainly of fat deposited just under the skin or subcutaneous fat. The third category of fats is the non-essential fut., which serves no purpose and may be harmful to health.
