Explain about cesium-chloride gradients, Biology

Assignment Help:

Matthew Meselson and Frank Stahl grew bacteria in media having either N14 or N15 for various numbers of cell divisions. DNA from the bacterial samples were isolated and spun within an ultracentrifuge. The differing distances travelled by the several DNA samples by the cesium-chloride gradients indicate which of the following?

A. DNA polymerase will read the template strand in the 3' to 5' direction and synthesize the new strands in the 5' to 3' direction.

B. During the cell cycle DNA will oscillate among states of de-condensation (S phase) and condensation (prophase thru anaphase)

C. The genome is comprised of double stranded DNA while mRNA is single stranded.

D. DNA replication is a semi-conservative process in which the parental strands serve as templates for the synthesis of new strands.
