Simple steelyard (reading to 100 g)

The pan is made from cardboard, and is formed like a funnel. It is fixed to a beam made of a triangular-shaped lamina in ply- wood or 'Perspex'.

The beam tapers from 2 cm at the extreme end to 5 cm near the pan. The pivot, which can be a strong darning needle, is driven by the beam at a point about 5 cm from the pan and 2 cm from the top edge. Some part of the beam or pan can be cut away to make it balance
