The Elements of composition are the formal language used to communicate in the visual arts. The elements of composition can be loosely broken into 5 main elements, Line, shape, value, colour, and texture. All of these elements are used to convey the "content" of the  artwork, and an artist must make decisions regarding how each of these elements will be used in their own practice.
