Assignment Help:

Drive Chain Cleaning and Adjustment : The service life of the drive chain depends on proper lubrication and adjustment. Poor maintenance can cause premature wear or damage to drive chain and sprockets. Under severe riding and use in the dusty areas frequent maintenance would be necessary.

STEPS

  • Remove the lower chain cover of the drive chain.
  • Keep a tray below the drive chain.
  • Clean the drive chain using kerosene with the help of a brush and air dry.
  • After drying, lubricate the drive chain with SAE 90 lubricant.
  • Check the slackness of drive chain. It should be between 20-30 mm.
  • If required adjust the drive chain. To adjust loosen the axle nut and sleeve nut.
  • Adjust the chain slackness by adjusting the chain adjuster nut.
  • Drive chain is adjusted equally on both the sides by ensuring the scale graduations on both the sides of the swing arm are coinciding with the notch on the adjusting plate
  • Clean the chain cover. Install the chain cover securely.

Important points to remember:

  • Chain slackness must be between 20-30 mm.
  • Open end drive chain lock plate should be fitted in the opposite direction of the chain rotation.
