Dissimilarities in function b/w rock anchors and rock socket, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Question

What are main dissimilarities in function between rock anchors and rock sockets?

Answer

Rock anchors are used first and foremost for resisting uplift forces. On contrary, rock sockets serve three major reasons-

(i) Rock socket friction and end bearing to oppose vertical load;

(ii) Inert conflict of rock sockets contribute to resistance of lateral load; and

(iii) Socket shaft resistance is also used for resist uplifting forces. But only 70 percent of this ability has to be used because of effect of unenthusiastic Poisson ratio.
