Determine the magnetic declination at a place, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

Example :

Determine the declination at a place, if at noon the magnetic bearing to the sun is (a) 358° (b) 185°

Solution: (a) Referring to given figure (a) since the magnetic bearing to the sun is 185°, in the noon it is to the geographic South Pole. Therefore, to the magnetic bearing to North Pole is 5°, for example, declination is 5° Ans.

            (a)                                                                     (b)

(b) Referring to Fig. (b),

Declination = 360° - 358° = 2° East.
