Determine the final volume of the compacted soil, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

30,000-yd3 of banked soil from a borrow pit is stockpiled before being trucked to the jobsite.  The soil has 28% swell and shrinkage of 18%.  The final volume of the compacted soil is most nearly:

Solution:    Shrinkage is measured with respect to the bank condition.

Apply the equation:

Vcompacted = [100% - % shrinkage/100%] Vbank

Vcompacted = [100% - 18%/100%] (30,000-yds3) = 24,600 - yd3
