Determine the average time in the queue, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

A machine machines parts in exactly 1.5 minutes. The machine requires tool change according to an exponential distribution with a mean of 12 minutes between occurrences. The tool change time is also exponentially distributed  with a mean of 3 minutes.  Parts arrive for processing exactly every 2 minutes.

Simulate the system for 10 hours. Determine the average time in the queue before the machine for three cases as follows (focus: breakdowns):

a.  Take randomness into account as stated above.

b.  Ignore the randomness (treat the breakdown data as deterministic).

c.  Assume that the machine has no breakdown, but that the processing time is 1.875 minutes.
