Determine How to Calculate the Amount of Nitrogen?

The amount of nitrogen can be calculated for this value using the equation:

1000 ml of 1N H2SO4 = 1000 ml of 1N NH3 = 1000 ml of 1N (NH4)2SO4 = 1000 ml of 1 N Nitrogen = 14 g of Nitrogen (based on molecular weight calculations)

The Kjeldahl's method is commonly used in estimation of protein content of foods and has been extensively used for protein estimation of various foodstuff. We shall look at the method in details in activity 3 in this practical and try to find the amount of ammonium sulphate in the sample from which protein can be calculated.
