Escllericllia coli is an organism found in the intestinal tract of all human beings, and represents a typical prokaryotic organism, which has been intensively investigated. Its cell wall is made of a rigid framework called the peptidoglycan, consisting of polysaccharide chains cross linked by peptide units.
