Determine about the microprocessor
A microprocessor contains at the least CPU which was the case in 1970s and early 1980s. Today they include cache memories, bus interfaces, and memory management units. High-performance microprocessors from Intel, Sun, AMD, and IBM have these functional units. Some other chips in market today comprise memory and even I/O controllers. These are used for embedded applications and known as microcontrollers, not microprocessors. Reason why the memory and I/O controllers are added is that embedded computers are often required to occupy a small space in system they are housed in. To reduce chip count, thus physical space, this approach is needed.
