Describe Oxidative Stress in New Cardio-vascular Risk Factors ?

In the risk conferred by LDL cholesterol, the oxidative modification of LDL plays a central role, because it is mostly the oxidised LDL molecule that causes endothelial dysfunction and damage to the vessel wall. However, the role of antioxidant therapy for the prevention of vascular disease is not well established. In fact, while epidemiological and observational studies have shown that high intakes of vitamins E, C and A may provide protection against Gal-dio-vascular disease, the results of placebo-controlled primary prevention studies failed to show any benefit from the use of antioxidant vitamins. However, some secondary prevention studies have suggested potential beneficial effects of antioxidants.
