Define The Large Intestine

The large intestine or colon is about five feet long. It begins at the caecum and terminates at the rectum and anal canal. It is divided into a number of parts - caecum, ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, pelvic colon, rectum and anal canal. Figure illustrates these different parts of the large intestine.
