Define NPDES Sampling Requirements?

The sampling needs under NPDES are given at 40 CFR Part 122, as part of the needs for applying for an NPDES discharge allow. The needs are broken out by kind of industry and discharge. For instance:

1. 40 CFR Part 122.21(g) (7) provides the needs for sampling existing manufacturing, mining, commercial and silvicultural dischargers.

2. 40 CFR Part 122.21(h) (4) (i) provide the needs for sampling manufacturing, mining, commercial, and silvicultural facilities that discharge only non-process wastewater.

3. 40 CFR Part 122.21(j) (4) (viii) provides the needs for sampling existing and new publicly owned treatment works (POTWs).

Even though many of the other allows application needs differ among these types of dischargers, they have in common the needs for collecting grab samples for certain pollutants and how composite samples for other pollutants should be collected.
