Define Metabolic Activity and Cell Constituents?

Metabolic activity like amount of acid produced or CO₂ produced is directly proportional to the number of bacteria present, so can be used to measure bacterial number. In a similar manner, the amount of certain substances, like protein or nitrogen content, chlorophyll content etc. is constant in each cell and, therefore, can be used for detecting microbial content.
