Define Direct file organization?

The direct file organization is employed to enhance the performance in accessing the records than sequential file organization. In direct file organization, the key value is mapped straight to the storage location. The common method of direct mapping is by carrying out some arithmetic manipulation of the key value. This procedure is called hashing. While using this organization, an application like on-line transaction processing system can be designed that is why the centralized data are not only instantly accessible but are all the time up-to-date.
