Q. Explain Atherosclerosis?
Atherosclerosis is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in developed as well as in developing countries. Atherogenesis occurs over a period of many years. Growth of atherosclerotic plaques will cause narrowing of the lumen of the artery and reduce the blood flow to the area it is supposed to supply. Many risk factors are responsible for the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. Atherosclerosis affects various regions of the circulation and produces various types of clinical presentations depending on the organ involved. For example, it may be a "heart attack" or "brain stroke".
