De Vega Annuloplasty : Classic De Vega annuloplasty is done using 2'0' double armed polyester suture with pledgets on either end. It starts with one of the needles passed from a point just beyond the cormnissure between posterior and septal leaflets. It stops after crossing the commissural between the anterior and septal leaflets. Then the second needle is passed similarly after incorporating a Dacron pledget. After both needles come out, they are passed through another pledget. By tightening these sutures, a purse string narrowing of posterior and anterior parts of annulus is achieved. It is then tied. The narrowing can be adjusted by tying over a Starr-Edwards mitral valve sizer of 24-34mm.
