- Providing psychological support.

- Encouraging clients to identify and express their feelings.

- Helping the clients to explore alternatives.

- Encouraging and supporting life style change as required.

- Helping patient to draw support from their family, friends and social network.

- Assisting clients to adjust to problems that occur when there is illness.

- Taking on role of a advocate to advice on various matters.

- Providing up-to-date information on diabetes, prevention, treatment and care.

- Informing patient about available resources and agencies (government and nongovernmental).
