Convert measurements between the English system?

To convert measurements between the English system and the metric system:

1. Look up the conversion between the two units of measurement on the conversion table.
2. Make a ratio out of the conversion. You will learn more about ratios in the 7th grade math. For now, you just need to know that a ratio is a comparison between two values, and that a ratio works very much like a fraction.
Desired/given So, to make a ratio out of the conversion, put the desired units in the numerator. The given units go in the denominator.
3. Multiply the given measurement by the ratio. The given units will cancel each other.

Example 1: How many centimeters are in 25 inches?

Step 1: Look up, in a conversion table, how many centimeters are in one inch. You'll see that there are 2.54 cm per inch. Convert the information into a ratio.
Step 2: Multiply 25 inches by the ratio you found in Step 1.
Step 3: Find the product.

Example 2: How many pounds are in 15 kilograms?

Step 1: According to the conversion table, how many pounds are in one kilogram, or how many kilograms are in one pound. Convert the information into a ratio.
Step 2: Multiply 15 kilograms by the ratio found in Step 1.
Step 3: Find the product.
