What is the relationship between the concept of reproductive isolation and the concept of species?

The Reproductive isolation is an important concept because it defines the concept of species: only living beings that can cross among themselves and generate fertile offspring that is not under reproductive isolation, belong to the same species. For instance, chimps and humans are under reproductive isolation and are not of the same species.
