What is End-to-End Anastomosis with Subclavian Flap Aortoplasty ?

The two operations can be combined as a single procedure. Medially end-to-end anastomosis is done between the proximal and distal aorta after resection. Laterally a subclavian flap is sutured as an onlay patch. T11e advantage is that there is much lower incidence of re-coarctation after the combined operation.

This operation is similar to subclavian patch aortoplasty. A diamond shaped Dacron patch is used for widening the coarctation segment. The operation fell into disuse because of high incidence of aneurysm formation in the resected , coarctation ridge opposite to the Dacron patch.
