Compute the ultimate settlement, Civil Engineering

Assignment Help:

A 2 m wide strip footing is to be constructed in a sandy stratum of 2 m thick. The depth of the footing is 1 m below ground surface. The sand layer is underlain by lm thick clay stratum. The clay overlies a bed of dense sand. The water table is upto the top of clay stratum. The submerged unit weight of clay is 8 kN/m3 and bulk unit weight of clay is 20 kWm3. The footing is expected to carry a load intensity of 230 kN/m2. Compute the ultimate settlement. Assume void ratio at 44 kN/m2 = 1.96 and at 195 kNlm2 as 1.01.
