Q. Clinical Symptoms of diabetes mellitus?

In mild cases of diabetes mellitus, no symptoms may be seen. The diagnosis could be incidental during a blood or urine investigation. In most severe cases of diabetes, the clinical symptoms are more pronounced.

Polyurea, polydipsia, polyphagia, loss of weight, paracsthesia are earliest symptoms of diabetes. Polyurea is due to the osmotic diuretic effect of glucose in the kidney tubules. In turn, the polydipsia is due to dehydration resulting from polynrea. The failure of glucose (and protein) utilization by the body causes loss of weight and tendency towards polyphagia. The paraesthesia apparently is also caused by loss or body protein.
