Bolt stress to seat the gasket, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Bolt Stress to Seat the Gasket?

The required bolt stress to seat the gasket can be calculated, using the recommended gasket seating stress provided by the manufacturer in accordance with Equation.

SB = As * SB/Ab

Where:

SB = bolt stress at ambient temperature (psi)

Ab = total cross-section root area of bolts (in2)

Sg  = actual stress at gasket bearing surface (psi)

Ag = gasket area (in2)

Ag = 0.785 * [(do - 0.125)2 -di2]            for standard flanges

Ag = 0.785 * [do2 -di2] + (Rib Area)      for equipment flanges

do = outside gasket diameter (in)

dj = inside gasket diameter (in)
