Benzene is a very symmetrical compound

Benzene is a very symmetrical compound. The carbon framework is essentially a planar hexagon. Because of its resonance structures, all carbon-carbon bonds have equal length. The more symmetrical benzene has a usually high melting point (for a hydrocarbon), +5.5°. The less symmetrical toluene has a more typical melting point, -95°.
