What is V-belt. Drive expression of Ratio in belt tension for V-belt
Sol: The power from one shaft to the other shaft can be transmitted with the help of V-belt drive and rope drive. Figure given below shows a V-belt with a grooved pulley.
Sol: Let RN = Normal reaction between the belt and sides with grooved pulley.

µ = Co-efficient of friction in between belt and pulley. R = Total reaction in plane of groove.
Resolving forces vertically, we get
R = RN sin a + RN sin a
= 2RN sin a
