Write algebraic expressions using variables X and Y of the form Y=f(X) that give the following correlation results:

A) a linear correlation coefficient = 0,

B) a positive correlation coefficient that is sensitive to outliers,

C) a positive correlation coefficient that is robust to outliers, and D) an undefined correlation coefficient.

Explain in 1-2 sentences for each (A-D) what they tell you about the relationship between X and Y.

Using Matlab, generate data sets (sample size n=10) for each expression (A-D) with randomly generated, normally distributed residuals/errors. Graph these points overlaid on the lines for each defined expression.

Use a separate subplot for each coefficient and include expressions A-D in the same figure window.
