Microsoft Word -
You are going to use Microsoft Word to create your invite. Write a short letter to your growers inviting them to your event. You need to tell them who you are and a brief description about your new company, followed by inviting them to your event. You must use Mail Merge to create individual letters to each grower. Create your client list in Excel and save your Excel file, Original Letter document, and Merged Letters (in pdf format) document. If your name was 'John Doe', you would have the following file names:
Example: Client List John Doe, Original Letter John Doe, Merged Letters John Doe.
If you work in groups of two, insert both of your last names in place of 'John Doe' in each file.
Your letter must be written in a business style format and contain the following:
- A Professional Letterhead with your business name in it. (Make one up)
- Client Mailing Address
- Greeting Line
- Body with all of the relevant content noted above
- Closing followed by your name and contact info
Microsoft Excel -
In order to work with growers on their profitability and help them make better business decisions, you need to know their cost of production. How much does it cost to raise that bushel of corn or soybeans?
Often times this is not documented well because of all of the different expenses that can effect it.
However, when trying to improve your profitability and management it is a crucial piece of information.
Having a growers expenses listed out and seeing how different management zones compare to each other can be very useful.
A list of expenses is below. Please use all of them and feel free to add more that you think are relevant.
- Fixed Costs (applied to every acre formed)
- Land Payment/Rent
- Seed
- Fertilizer
- Tillage
- Planting
- Chemical
- Irrigation
- Harvest
- Grain Drying and Storage
- Trucking
- Miscellaneou
Once you have completed your spreadsheet, save it as 'Crop Budget FirstName LastName'. Example: Crop Budget John Doe.
Microsoft PowerPoint -
Once you get your growers to your event, you will need to have something to pitch your services to them. For this, you will need to create a PowerPoint presentation. Considering your experience with your college instructors overusing PowerPoint, you do not want to bore your clients with a "Death by PowerPoint" kind of situation. However, you want things to look professional and also use it as an opportunity to show off your Excel tool that you have built for them.
You need to create 5 slides.
1- Welcome - Welcome your growers and thank them for coming. Identify who you are and your business.
2- Business plan - What does your business do? Goals and strategic plan of your business.
3 -Services and Value - What services do you offer? How do these services bring value to the grower?
4- Spreadsheet - Insert an interactive editable copy of your spreadsheet tool to demonstrate how it works.
5 - Questions and thanks for coming- Time for questions and then thank them for coming. Leave your contact info on the last slide.
You are expected to format your slides professionally.
Each of your slides must contain the following
1. Wisp Theme
2. Fade Transition
3. Fade Animation
When finished with all parts of this project, You should be uploading the following five files:
1. Client List John Doe
2. Original Letter John Doe
3. Merged Letters John Doe
4. Crop Budget John Doe
5. Grower Presentation John Doe.
