You need to write a response to TWO classmates. Only need to be a few senses long but have to use One quote from the pages which I uploaded.
Clasmate 1: If I was voting in the election in 1980 I would vote for Ronald Reagan. Reagan is running for the the Republican party and has experience in politics by having two successful terms as governor of California. As governor of California Ronald Reagan shut down the government in order to increase welfare jobs by providing an opportunity for the working class. Reagan "pledged to slash social-welfare programs, increase military spending to "win" the cold war..." (1425 )which is good because communism was a huge threat to the United States at this time and was a priority to stop. In addition, he also promised to "...(get the government odd our backs and release the energies of free enterprised...)" (1425) which creates a tax reduction which is beneficial to the people of the United States who want to open small businesses. Reagan stood out to me during this election because of his excellent communication skills. He was well spoken and could easily get his message across in a way that made him sound very committed to his work. Reagan had hopes to expand economically to other countries more so than Jimmy Carter, who just states that he wants to get along with less. The reason this is beneficial for the United States economy is because American farmers and businesses are going to have the opportunity to expand their products internationally instead of just in the states which will increase their profits.
Classmate 2: In the 1980 election I would have most likely voted for Jimmy Carter for president. The reason behind me voting for him would be because of how humble and honest he was. Unlike previous presidents and elected officials, he wasn't concerned with getting involved with issues that did not concern the U.S or increasing the power that the United states had over everyone else. He stated in his 1976 inaugural speech that "more is not necessarily better, that even our great nation has recognized its limits and the we can neither answer all questions nor solve all problems." Getting involved with other nations issues led the U.S into some of the problems that we were still recovering from like the great depression. He supported civils rights and "His administration included more African Americans and women than any before him". He may not have acted how everyone thought a president should act but he got things done. There was an expectation to fix several problems in four years that were created from years of issues and although there were flaws in the way he governed the white house he could have made a real change if given the chance to. He was for natural energy, saving money, civil rights, and world peace.
