INTRODUCTION

This assignment assesses the following Learning Outcomes of this module:

1. Plan and demonstrate the operations of a competition team.
2. Apply business management tools & techniques to resolve with day to day operational issues.

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

Throughout your course you are learning about the various different business aspects of how a motorsport team operates. The objective of this assignment is to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of how all of these functions come together to form a cohesive motorsport business.

You will produce an operations manual for a professional level motorsport business, detailing how operations are managed for a testing event.

REQUIRED

You should choose a hypothetical professional motorsport business of your own. The professional business will be full time employed in competition at a national or international level, e.g. British Touring Car Championship, World Rally Championship, British Rally Championship, British GT, FIA GT or European Le Mans.

• You will produce a detailed testing operations manual covering the entire duration of testing from initial planning, through the actual test to post-test evaluation.
• The manual will encompass the entire scope of testing operations including a summary of the team in terms of: management structure, roles and responsibilities, championships/events contested, car(s) used, procedures, choice of equipment, involvement and management of sponsors and an outline budget.
• The manual should include management strategies for unplanned changes and issues arising during vehicle testing such as accidents, failure of components or vehicle performance targets.

The report must not be a simple statement of recommendations. The report MUST indicate the options considered, and the reasons for choosing this option. All decisions should be supported by researched and properly referenced material. The purpose of the report is to demonstrate your ability to analyse and make decisions based upon information, not your ability to present knowledge.

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

Success in motorsport is measured in terms of performance. Competition drives a constant cycle of performance improvement which is not a result of any one individual factor, but the sum of the whole team's contribution. For a team to improve, it is critical that it measures and analyses its performance in past events. From this review, action plans can be made to implement improvements.

REQUIRED

Write a report evaluating the performance of the whole team for one of the motorsport events in which you participated during the year. The event you review must be one in which you played an active member of a motorsport team.

Your report should analyse and evaluate:

• The team's compliance to legislation, regulation and industrial standards during the event.
• The management, technical and commercial aspects of team operations during the event.
• The team's impact upon competition performance and results during the event.

Your report should make recommendations for improvement including an action plan for implementation
