Task

Choose ONE industry from the list below and write a report describing how analytics could be implemented in a typical company in that industry and used to improve its performance.
Choice of industries:
• Retail
• Manufacturing
• Financial services
You should draw on class materials and discussion as well as the current academic and wider literature. You are also encouraged to use real-world examples and/or your own experience to illustrate your points.
Your report should contain the following:
• A description of a typical company in the industry and the type of business functions (finance, sales, HR, marketing, etc) that are relevant. You could decide to focus on a large corporation or a SME - whichever you choose, you should base the remainder of your report on the typical company that you have described.
• A description of the data that might be collected or generated by your typical company and any issues that might arise.
• A discussion of the analytics that could be embedded into the company and the benefits that this could bring. Screenshots of lab work completed during the teaching block, specifically (but not limited to) SAP Hana, Data Mining, Text Analytics and Geospatial Analytics should be included in this section.
• A discussion of the factors that should be considered when implementing an analytics function and any obstacles that might be encountered and overcome.
You should reference real-world companies similar to your ‘typical company' throughout your report, including examples of how analytics is actually being used.
 
Referencing Requirements
You must reference all sources using the APA 7th Edition. Guidance on this method of referencing can be found at www.referencing.port.ac.uk. Reference should be made to the primary source, except when the primary source can no longer be obtained. Poor citation of sources will result in a loss of marks. Referencing is required to give intellectual credit to your source, help your reader recover your source easily and to avoid being accused of plagiarism.
